  3. disk into the RAM  chips,  it is ready
  4. to be run.  The program's instructions
  5. are read by the CPU  and  carried out.
  6. Perhaps part of the  RAM  will be used
  7. for a  scratch  pad to hold data as it
  8. is  being  changed.  For  instance, if
  9. you are writing a letter with  a  word
  10. processing  program, that  letter will
  11. exist in the RAM.  If  the  power  was
  12. turned off, the letter  would  be lost
  13. unless you first copy it onto a disk.
